Yeah, except, when I actually like someone I tend to ignore them because I know I'll probably be awkward or say something weird (just like Charlie from Perks of a Wallflower!) or mess things up because I never know what to say to them. Then its like:
AWKWARD TURTLE MUCH?
I know I know.
Probably.
Okay now, lets not judge. I attended an all-girls elementary, middle and high school. Although I have had many guy friends in church, have seriously dated people, and have been in a long-term relationship, BYU was and still is a completely different ball game. With all due respect, never have I met such a group of young men so fervent in asking girls out. Lets just say things are a little different where I come from and in my culture.
Today I'll let you guys into a little secret. Sometimes I still look back and laugh at how silly I was...
When I first came to BYU, I was in a serious relationship. Not knowing I was dating someone, guys would ask me out on dates. I told them I had a boyfriend. Sometimes they thought I was joking - it was a LDR. Now, if you know me I hate hate hate rejecting people. Somehow turning people down is just really tough for me to do. So I started just avoiding them and telling them I was really busy (the usual. Guys, if a girl is interested but genuinely busy she will reschedule for a later date). Sometimes it still would not work. So, I devised this sneaky plan...
Muahahaha
You see, many couples in BYU get married pretty early relative to the norm. I noticed guys would typically glance at my ring finger to scope if I was 'available' before asking me out. I went out and bought myself a fake wedding ring so I would no longer have such woes.
BAMMMM:
If you are wondering...yes it worked. No more dates! I even gave myself a little pat on the back for being such a genius. ha.
Now that I'm single, I no longer wear a wedding ring. However, with that comes a different onset of problems. Still not quite ready to mingle. I'm not a serial dater. For me, the best relationships blossom from friendship. Your spouse should be your best friend :) Probably because I can't date to save my life. Story of my life! I shall save that for another post. Till then, folks!
